Specializing in Stormwater Infiltration
Kindred Hydro specializes in site characterization and stormwater infiltration assessment. We support a broad range of projects from small residential and commercial site development projects, municipal stormwater retrofit projects, and large combined sewer overflow (CSO) reduction projects. Based on decades of experience we design and implement site characterization programs that are cost-effective, flexible, and tailored to meet the needs of owners and permitting agencies. We utilize the full range of site characterization methods, ranging from shallow hand-auger explorations, excavated test pits, vactor truck excavations, and drilled borings to depths exceeding 150 feet.
We have conducted hundreds of pilot infiltration tests (PIT) in compliance with standard methods in the Department of Ecology's stormwater manual (and adopted by most municipalities in Washington State). In addition, we have developed cost-effective exploration and testing methods using vacuum-extraction (vactor) trucks that allow collection of subsurface information and infiltration testing to depths of 10 feet with minimal site disturbance.
Deep infiltration is particularly effective in areas with low permeable soils near the surface and sites with limited space. We have conducted hundreds of infiltration tests in dug drains and infiltration test wells and developed specialized techniques for site characterization and infiltration testing in these facilities.
Kindred Hydro is highly proficient in organizing and interpreting large quantities of subsurface data and using this data to develop conceptual hydrogeologic models. We are also experts in the development of numerical models that represent the conceptual models and that can be used to simulate modifications to the system, such as installation of groundwater cut-off drains, increased groundwater recharge due to infiltration, and the impacts of groundwater pumping.
Kindred Hydro specializes in the simulation of groundwater infiltration facilities and groundwater mounding associated with these facilities.
Scott Kindred is available as an expert witness for litigation that involves groundwater flow, stormwater infiltration, soil and groundwater contamination, and water supply wells. Some of the issues he has addressed in the past include the evaluation and remediation of failed stormwater infiltration facilities, potential impacts of stormwater infiltration, evaluation of slope stability issues, and failed water supply wells.
